How Jenn and Lena measure the world

Interesting fact. Jenn and Lena both grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah. Another interesting fact. Jenn and Lena went to high school together and were in some of the same classes in the 4 years of high school. Other fun fact. Jenn and Lena were on the same FreshWOmen basketball team (ask us for a yearbook picture later).

Telling you this was to introduce a little bit of background as to how Jenn and Lena measure the world. When moving out to California, there is one stark difference from the landscape of the bay area and salt lake city. Mountains. There is no good way of know what direction you are facing at any given point in California, unlike in Utah. Because of this, it's also hard to know exactly how far away certain towns are from each other in the Bay Area. To remedy this, Jenn and Lena came up with a sophisticated conversion chart of highlights in the Bay Area from Palo Alto in "Utah Terms".

For example:
Monterey from Palo Alto is approximately the same distance as Salt Lake City is to Logan.

Palo Alto to The Golden Gate Bridge is approximately the same distance as Salt Lake is to Provo (depending on traffic)

The Stanford Stadium to "Chipotle" is like going from "Hires Big H" to Rice Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake.

Jenn and Lena have resorted understanding how far away things are in the Bay Area in relation to how far they are in Utah terms.

And a recent development. We are now starting to refer to distances in "Lauren and Grady" terms. Lauren and Grady live only one street down from each other(~500 feet away), so to fully understand the distance from our apartment to the Stanford Institute building, we figured we're approximately 38.016 "Lauren and Grady's" away. ((5280ft/mile*3.6 miles)/500 feet)
